Private House 144

New build replacement dwelling with 6 bedrooms laid out over 4 floors. The proposed building replaces an existing dwelling which was built in 1968 and had been much altered during the intervening years. The site is set off a private residential road which features a large number of matures trees and is adjacent to a golf course.

PAA worked closely with Salford Local Planning Authority and developed a good working relationship through many rounds of pre-application design development and the current form was finalised after a long period of close collaboration.

The client's brief informed the building's massing which consists of a two-storey gabled form which spans between a pair of two-storey volumes at the ground and lower ground levels. The ground and lower ground floor volumes accommodate the living and entertainment spaces and are laid out at an angle to each other which was defined by the site topography. The space between these volumes contains the entrance lobby and vertical core. The gabled form above accommodates the bedroom levels, guest suites and private quarters and features an open gable with a deep reveal which addresses the golf course.

PAA employed an architectural language that references traditional dwelling forms and materials whilst using contemporary building technologies to create a distinctive, prestige dwelling that will raise the standard of domestic architecture in the area. The proposed building palette uses traditional materials to create a crisp contrast between areas of white render, slate and black 'roman' bricks.
